The WPKPME08/C40 is an IP65-rated PME consumer unit pre-fitted with a 40A MCB and integrated PME fault detection relays. It removes the need for an earth rod in EV charger installations by isolating live, neutral, and earth conductors if a PME or PEN fault is detected – ensuring compliance with 18th Edition Amendment 2.
This model is designed for EV chargers and renewable systems that already include DC leakage protection. The MCB provides overcurrent defence, while PME detection ensures safe isolation in the event of PEN faults. Housed in a robust IP65 plastic enclosure, it’s ideal for both residential and commercial outdoor wall mounting.
Installer Tip: Use the MCB variant when the EV charger already includes its own RCD or RCBO functionality. For additional leakage protection in the unit itself, choose one of the RCBO-based PME consumer units.

When should I use the MCB variant?
Choose this model when your EV charger already has built-in RCD or RCBO functionality, and only overcurrent protection is required in the PME unit.

What happens when a PME fault is detected?
