Type B RCDs are used where electrical equipment may produce smooth DC residual current or high-frequency leakage. They are commonly specified for EV charger installs, heat pump supplies, solar inverters, UPS systems, drives and other inverter-led equipment.
Compared with Type A or Type AC devices, a Type B RCD gives wider residual current detection where DC leakage needs to be considered. This makes it an important option for installers working on modern renewable, EV and three-phase systems.

Type B RCDs detect a wider range of residual-current waveforms, including smooth DC. They are selected for equipment such as certain EV chargers, heat pumps, inverters, UPS systems and drives only when the equipment instructions and circuit design require that capability.
Typically used on single-phase circuits. Confirm rated current, residual operating current, supply arrangement and coordination with the overcurrent protective device.
Used on suitable three-phase systems where all required conductors pass through the device. Neutral treatment must follow the design and manufacturer instructions.
