2 Pole MCBs for Safe Line & Neutral Disconnection

2 pole MCBs provide overcurrent and short-circuit protection while disconnecting both the live and neutral conductors simultaneously. They are used where full circuit isolation is required under fault conditions, or where the supply characteristics demand neutral disconnection for safe operation.

These breakers are essential for circuits fed from certain earthing arrangements, sub-mains to outbuildings, and equipment where neutral isolation is required for safety or compliance. With simultaneous breaking of both poles, they prevent back-feed and ensure full isolation for testing, maintenance and protection scenarios.

  • Simultaneous line and neutral disconnection for safer isolation
  • Ideal for sub-mains feeding garages, garden rooms and workshops
  • Suitable for TT, TN-S and mixed-earthing systems where neutral isolation is beneficial
  • B and C curve options to match load characteristics
  • Robust DIN-rail construction for distribution boards and panel builds

2 Pole MCBs are commonly used by electricians who prefer clean, full isolation on dedicated circuits or where system design requires disconnecting both conductors during a fault.

Choosing a 2-Pole MCB

A two-pole MCB switches two conductors together and provides overcurrent protection according to its internal pole arrangement. Confirm whether line and neutral or two live conductors are involved, and whether the specific device protects both poles or uses a switched neutral.

Line & Neutral Circuits

Some single-phase designs require simultaneous line and neutral switching. Neutral treatment must follow the earthing arrangement and applicable installation rules.

B & C Curve Options

Choose the trip curve from normal inrush and fault-loop conditions; pole count does not determine the magnetic characteristic.

Higher-Current Options

Selected two-pole devices cover larger ratings for suitable feeders or equipment circuits. Confirm cable capacity, terminals and board rating.

Specification Checklist

  • Conductor arrangement: identify whether the device switches line and neutral or two live conductors
  • Protected poles: check the product diagram and manufacturer data
  • Current and curve: coordinate with load, conductor and inrush characteristics
  • Breaking capacity: verify prospective fault current at the device location
  • Isolation requirement: confirm whether the MCB arrangement satisfies the design
