The main switch provides switching and isolation; it does not provide residual-current protection. The MCBs provide overcurrent protection. On the shared-RCD build, an RCD trip can disconnect the circuits it supplies, which matters where continuity of other circuits is a priority.
Order the breaker mix your job needs
Send the required rating and trip curve for each of the six circuits, along with the board quantity, intended location and delivery date. Confirm enclosure dimensions and the complete protection arrangement before ordering. The MCB selection should follow the circuit design, rather than an assumed standard breaker pack.
Questions before ordering
Does six usable ways mean a six-module enclosure?
No. Here, six usable ways means six outgoing circuit positions. The incomer also occupies space, so an enclosure’s overall module count is a different measurement.
Do these six-way boards include RCBOs or an SPD?
The two listed builds are supplied with MCBs, not individual RCBOs. WMCU08/6 does not include an SPD; the WMCURC8/6 listed configuration is a shared RCD plus six MCBs. If surge protection or RCBOs are required, confirm a complete suitable assembly before ordering.
Can I use a six-way board for a garage or outbuilding?
It may suit the required circuit count, but the electrician must also check the supply, earthing, protection and mounting environment. WMCU08/6 is an IP40 indoor unit, so do not assume it is suitable for an exposed outdoor position.
What if I need fewer circuits or future spare capacity?
Compare the four-way and eight-way ranges. Check the usable outgoing positions after the chosen devices are fitted, including any allowance for expansion.
