The WPEPME08/C40 is an IP65-rated PME consumer unit pre-fitted with a 40A C Curve Type A RCBO and integrated PME fault detection relays. It eliminates the need for an earth rod in EV charger installations by safely isolating all conductors — live, neutral, and earth — if a PME or PEN fault is detected.
Housed in a tough outdoor-ready enclosure, this unit is designed for EV charge points, renewable circuits, and domestic or commercial installs that require full PME compliance. The built-in monitoring circuit continuously checks supply voltage and trips within 4–5 seconds on detection of unsafe conditions.

What does PME fault detection mean?
It monitors the PEN conductor (combined earth and neutral) and disconnects all conductors — live, neutral, and earth — to eliminate shock risk if a fault occurs.
Do I still need an earth rod?
No. This unit replaces the need for an earth rod in EV installs, provided the charger has built-in DC leakage protection.
Why choose RCBO instead of MCB?
RCBO variants protect against both overloads and earth leakage faults. MCB models only provide overcurrent protection and assume the EV charger includes its own RCD.
