Description

The WME08/HP40C heat pump consumer unit brings a 40A Type B HP RCD, surge protection, main switch and 16A MCB protection together in a metal enclosure. It gives installers a dedicated board configuration to specify for a heat-pump project, with the protective devices and enclosure supplied together.

Choose this version when the heat-pump manufacturer's requirements and your circuit design call for Type B HP residual current protection with MCB-protected outgoing circuits. If your schedule needs two additional RCBOs, compare the WME08/HPR40C version below.

What this heat-pump board gives you

  • Type B HP protection: the fitted WHP RCD is designed for smooth DC and higher-frequency residual currents associated with inverter-driven equipment.
  • Separate protection functions: the 40A rating belongs to the RCD; the listed outgoing MCB rating is 16A. This is not a board supplied with a 40A outgoing MCB.
  • Integrated Type 2 surge protection: an SPD is included in the assembly to address transient overvoltages.
  • A compact metal enclosure: 232mm wide × 240mm high × 112mm deep, helping you check the available mounting space before ordering.

Match the supplied breakers to your circuit schedule

Whitecliffe lists 16A C-curve MCBs for WME08/HP40C. The gallery shows an example assembly with mixed B16/C16 markings, so confirm the quantity and trip curve of each supplied MCB before ordering. The manufacturer's 8-module description identifies the enclosure variant; it does not mean eight spare outgoing ways remain after the equipment is fitted.

Get the right board for the job

contact Power & Data UK quoting WME08/HP40C, your heat-pump make and model, the required breaker schedule, quantity and delivery date. We can check the listed configuration and availability against your requirements before you commit to the order. If the product is shown as unavailable, ask for the current lead time.

Type B HP protection should be selected from the equipment instructions and installation design; it is not a universal requirement for every heat pump. Need just the RCD for a specified compatible assembly? See the WHP240-030 Type B HP RCD.

Installation notes

Selection, installation and commissioning must be completed by a qualified electrician using the instructions for the supplied assembly.

  • Check the heat-pump manufacturer's specified RCD type, required circuit current and starting characteristics before choosing the board.
  • Agree the supplied MCB quantities and trip curves, then check cable sizing, fault protection and coordination with upstream devices.
  • Check the mounting location and enclosure requirements against the supplied instructions; the external dimensions are 232 × 240 × 112mm.
  • Check SPD connections and earthing, terminal tightening instructions and the completed assembly before commissioning.
  • The RCD does not provide overload or short-circuit protection; the relevant overcurrent devices and their coordination remain part of the circuit design.
FAQs

Is this a 40A heat-pump circuit board?

40A is the fitted RCD rating, not the outgoing MCB rating. Whitecliffe lists 16A MCBs for this configuration. Your electrician must check those devices against the heat pump and circuit design.

What is the difference between HP40C and HPR40C?

The WME08/HPR40C is listed with one 16A C-curve MCB and two 16A RCBOs. WME08/HP40C is the MCB-equipped configuration. Both are listed with a 40A RCD, surge protection and the same external dimensions.

Does 8 module mean eight usable circuits?

No. It is the manufacturer's enclosure description. The fitted switch, SPD and protective devices occupy space; agree the outgoing circuit schedule and any spare capacity before ordering.

Do all heat pumps need a Type B HP RCD?

No single RCD specification suits every heat pump. Check the heat-pump manufacturer's instructions and the electrical design, including the residual current waveforms and frequencies that must be detected.

Why do the gallery breakers show different trip curves?

The gallery shows an example assembly with B16 and C16 markings, while Whitecliffe lists 16A C-curve MCBs for this model. Confirm the exact device schedule for the board being supplied.

Can I order a different configuration or check a lead time?

Please contact Power & Data UK with the model code, required device schedule, quantity and delivery date. Confirm availability or a custom configuration before ordering; a fixed dispatch time is not promised on this page.
