The WPEPME08/SP is an IP65 PME consumer unit for single-phase EV charging circuits. It combines a 40A C Curve Type A RCBO, PME fault monitoring and a factory-fitted Type 2 surge protection device in one pre-wired enclosure.
This version suits installations that require residual-current and overcurrent protection in the consumer unit as well as coordinated surge protection. The RCBO does not replace any DC residual-current protection required by the connected charger, so the complete protective arrangement must be checked before installation.
Installer Tip: Choose this SP model when the design requires both a 40A Type A RCBO and Type 2 surge protection. If SPD protection is provided elsewhere, compare the WPEPME08/C40 RCBO version.

PME Fault Protection for EV Charging
The built-in monitoring arrangement checks the supply against the manufacturer’s stated under-voltage and over-voltage thresholds. When a qualifying abnormal condition is detected, the assembly operates its linked switching arrangement to disconnect line, neutral and the protective conductor. Under-voltage recovery is automatic; an over-voltage operation requires manual reset.
Final selection still depends on the charger, supply characteristics, earthing arrangement and the protective devices already present. Installation, inspection and testing must be completed by a suitably qualified person in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the current edition of BS 7671.

What is included in the WPEPME08/SP?
It includes PME fault monitoring, a 40A C Curve Type A RCBO and a Type 2 SPD in an IP65 enclosure.
Does the RCBO provide 6mA DC detection?
Do not assume so. The fitted device is identified as a Type A RCBO; any DC residual-current protection required by the charger must be confirmed separately from the charger and device documentation.
Can this avoid a separate earth electrode?
The PME monitoring arrangement is designed for EV charging installations where automatic disconnection is used as the protective measure. Suitability must still be confirmed for the particular installation, earthing arrangement and current BS 7671 requirements.
What is the difference between this and WPEPME08/C40?
This SP version includes a Type 2 SPD. WPEPME08/C40 uses the same 40A C Curve Type A RCBO format without the factory-fitted SPD.
Can it be installed outdoors?
The enclosure is rated IP65. The mounting position, cable entries and installation method must preserve the required environmental protection.
