The WPKPME08/C40 is an IP65 PME consumer unit combining a 40A MCB with PME fault monitoring for a single-phase EV charging circuit. It is the simplest configuration in this four-model family, with no integral RCBO and no factory-fitted SPD.
This model is intended for designs where the necessary residual-current protection and any required surge protection are already provided elsewhere. The MCB supplies overload and short-circuit protection only.
Installer Tip: Confirm where the required residual-current and surge protection are provided before selecting this model. For a factory-fitted SPD, compare the WPKPME08/SP.

PME Fault Protection for EV Charging
The built-in monitoring arrangement checks the supply against the manufacturer’s stated under-voltage and over-voltage thresholds. When a qualifying abnormal condition is detected, the assembly operates its linked switching arrangement to disconnect line, neutral and the protective conductor. Under-voltage recovery is automatic; an over-voltage operation requires manual reset.
Final selection still depends on the charger, supply characteristics, earthing arrangement and the protective devices already present. Installation, inspection and testing must be completed by a suitably qualified person in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions and the current edition of BS 7671.

What protection is included?
The unit includes PME fault monitoring and a 40A MCB. It does not include an RCBO or a factory-fitted SPD.
When is the MCB version appropriate?
It may be appropriate where suitable residual-current protection is already provided by the charger or elsewhere in the circuit. The complete protective arrangement must be verified.
Can this avoid a separate earth electrode?
The PME monitoring arrangement is designed for EV charging installations using automatic disconnection. Suitability must be confirmed for the particular installation and current BS 7671 requirements.
Which version adds surge protection?
WPKPME08/SP adds a factory-fitted Type 2 SPD while retaining the 40A MCB format.

The enclosure is rated IP65, provided the mounting method and cable entries preserve that rating.
