The WPKPME08/SP is a weatherproof PME consumer unit pre-fitted with a 40A MCB, integrated PME fault detection relays, and a Type 2 Surge Protection Device (SPD). It delivers full PEN fault isolation and surge protection in one compact IP65 enclosure, removing the need for an earth rod in EV charger installations.
Designed for EV charge points and renewable installs that already include DC leakage protection, this model provides both overcurrent defence and transient surge suppression. The PME system automatically disconnects live, neutral, and earth conductors if a PEN fault is detected – keeping the installation safe and compliant with 18th Edition Amendment 2.
Installer Tip: Choose the SP variant when the design specifies surge protection for EV chargers or solar equipment. For PME-only use cases, see the WPKPME08/C40 model.

When should I choose the SP variant?
Use this version when surge protection is required alongside PME fault detection. It protects sensitive EV chargers or solar inverters from transient overvoltages.
Does it remove the need for an earth rod?
Yes. The PME detection system eliminates the need for an earth rod, provided the EV charger already has DC leakage protection built in.
How does the PME detection system work?
It continuously monitors the PEN conductor and disconnects all conductors – live, neutral, and earth – within 4–5 seconds if a fault is detected.
Is it suitable for outdoor mounting?
