Pre-wired in the UK and tested before dispatch – allow up to 3 working days for shipping.

The WMTP28-R40CSP is a complete 3 phase PME consumer unit for two EV chargers. It is supplied in a 28-module IP40 steel enclosure with dedicated 2 x 40A four-pole RCBO outputs, open-PEN fault protection, a 100A main switch and Type 2 surge protection.

This model is designed specifically for installations serving two three-phase EV charge points. It provides the distribution, overcurrent protection, residual-current protection, surge protection and PME fault-detection arrangement within one pre-wired assembly.

Installer Tip: The WMTP28-R40CSP is the two-output three-phase charger model. If the project requires three three-phase outputs or six single-phase outputs, compare the related configurations in the table below.

Why Choose a 3 Phase PME Consumer Unit?

EV charge points connected to a PME supply require an appropriate protective measure against the consequences of an open-PEN conductor. The WMTP28-R40CSP combines PME fault detection with the protective and switching equipment required for two three-phase charger circuits.

When a qualifying supply-voltage fault is detected, the protection arrangement operates to isolate the EV charging installation. Its suitability—including whether a separate earth electrode is unnecessary—must be confirmed by the installer from the complete installation design and the applicable edition of BS 7671.

    • Dedicated two-charger configuration – designed for two three-phase EV charge points
    • 2 x 40A four-pole RCBO outputs – individual protection for each charger circuit
    • Integrated PME fault detection – monitors the supply for open-PEN fault conditions
    • Type 2 surge protection – helps protect connected equipment from transient overvoltages
    • 100A main switch – provides a single incoming switching point
    • Pre-wired and tested in the UK – reduces on-site assembly work

Protection for Two Three-Phase EV Chargers

Unlike a range page covering several output arrangements, this product page relates only to the WMTP28-R40CSP. Its two 40A four-pole RCBO outputs are intended to supply two three-phase chargers from a 400/415V three-phase installation.

The connected chargers must include the DC leakage protection required by the charger manufacturer and the applicable installation requirements. Device compatibility, maximum demand, load management and upstream protection must all be verified during circuit design.

Need a complete protection assembly for two three-phase charge points? The WMTP28-R40CSP provides two dedicated charger outputs, PME fault detection and Type 2 surge protection in one pre-wired board.

How many EV chargers can the WMTP28-R40CSP supply?

This model provides two dedicated 40A four-pole RCBO outputs and is designed for two three-phase EV charge points.

Is this the model for six EV chargers?

No. The WMTP28-R40CSP is the two-output three-phase model. For six single-phase charging outputs, see the WMTP28-WER40CSP PME Consumer Unit.

What is the difference between the WMTP28-R40CSP and WMTP36-R40CSP?

The WMTP28-R40CSP supplies two three-phase EV chargers through two 40A four-pole RCBO outputs. The WMTP36-R40CSP provides three 40A four-pole RCBO outputs for three three-phase charge points.

Does the WMTP28-R40CSP include PME fault detection?

Yes. The unit includes open-PEN fault detection designed to monitor the supply and operate the switching arrangement when a qualifying abnormal voltage condition is detected.

Is an earth rod required with this PME consumer unit?

The integrated open-PEN protective measure may allow an EV installation to be designed without a separate earth electrode where the relevant conditions are satisfied. This must be confirmed by the installer from the earthing arrangement, complete circuit design, manufacturer instructions and applicable edition of BS 7671.

Does this unit include surge protection?

Yes. A Type 2 surge protection device is included. Its indicator displays green while serviceable and red when the SPD module requires replacement.

Can the WMTP28-R40CSP be installed outdoors?

Not in an exposed location. The steel enclosure is rated IP40 and should be installed indoors in a dry, suitable environment.

What supply does this unit require?

The WMTP28-R40CSP is designed for a 400/415V three-phase AC supply. Supply capacity, maximum demand, diversity, load management and upstream protection must be assessed for the installation.

Do the EV chargers need DC leakage protection?

Yes. The manufacturer’s application information identifies this board for use with charge points that incorporate the necessary DC leakage protection. Confirm the charger specification and required protective arrangement before installation.

How does the unit reset after a voltage fault?

Following an undervoltage condition, the protection can reset automatically once the supply returns to an acceptable range. Following an overvoltage operation, a manual reset is required after the supply has normalised and the cause has been assessed.

What RCBO curve and residual-current type are fitted?

The available manufacturer documentation confirms two 40A four-pole RCBO outputs but does not clearly verify the curve, residual-current type or rated residual operating current for this exact SKU. Check the fitted device markings or obtain manufacturer confirmation before final specification.

Specification Note: The manufacturer’s currently available documentation confirms two 40A four-pole RCBO outputs but does not clearly substantiate the RCBO curve, residual-current type or rated residual operating current for this exact SKU. Confirm those device markings before final specification.

The WMTP28-R40CSP must be specified, installed, tested and commissioned by a suitably qualified electrical installer. Confirm that the complete arrangement is appropriate for the supply, earthing system, connected chargers and applicable edition of BS 7671.

Configuration Check: This model provides two 40A four-pole RCBO outputs for two three-phase EV chargers. Do not use the specifications for the three-output or six single-phase-output models when designing this installation.

    • Location: Install indoors in a dry, suitably ventilated location. The steel enclosure is rated IP40 and is not intended for exposed outdoor installation.
    • Supply: Confirm a suitable 400/415V three-phase supply and coordinate the 100A main switch with the upstream protective arrangement.
    • EV outputs: Two dedicated 40A four-pole RCBO-protected outputs are provided for two three-phase charge points.
    • Charger compatibility: Confirm that each charger provides the required integral DC leakage protection and is compatible with the selected upstream protective devices.
    • PME assessment: Verify the open-PEN protective measure against the complete installation design before deciding that a separate earth electrode is not required.
    • Surge protection: Check the Type 2 SPD status indicator during commissioning and routine inspection. Green indicates serviceable; red indicates replacement is required.
    • Terminations: Use the correct conductor sizes and observe the manufacturer’s terminal requirements. The recommended terminal torque is 2.5Nm.
    • Testing: Complete all required verification, RCBO testing, phase checks and functional tests before energising the EV charge points.
    • Reset behaviour: The unit automatically resets following recovery from an undervoltage condition. An overvoltage operation requires manual reset after the supply has returned to an acceptable range and the cause has been assessed.

Always follow the product instructions, EV charger manufacturer requirements, Building Regulations and the applicable edition of BS 7671.
