PME Fault Detection Consumer Unit – 40A Type A RCBO with SPD (WMEPME08/SP)

The WMEPME08/SP is a metal PME fault detection consumer unit combining a 40A Type A RCBO with an SPD. It brings PME monitoring, residual-current and overcurrent protection, and surge protection into one enclosure for selection as part of an EV charging installation.

The unit monitors 230V and 240V supplies. Under the specified abnormal-voltage conditions, it disconnects live, neutral and earth within five seconds. The charge point's DC leakage protection and installation requirements must also be checked.

Installation and commissioning must be carried out by a qualified electrician. Use the instructions supplied with the exact assembly and the charge point, together with the applicable BS 7671 requirements.

• Confirm the charge point's requirements for residual-current, DC leakage, overcurrent and PEN fault protection.
• Select cable sizes and protective-device settings for the load and installation conditions.
• Follow the wiring diagram, terminal identification and tightening torques supplied with the exact assembly.
• Test the protection and PME disconnection/reset functions using the manufacturer's commissioning procedure.
• Mount in an appropriate indoor location consistent with the IP40 rating.
• Confirm the SPD type and coordination required for the circuit.
• Confirm the charge point has the DC leakage protection required by the board and charge-point instructions.
• After an over-voltage trip, investigate the cause and follow the supplied reset procedure.

Is this a 40A or 63A board?

The manufacturer specifies a 40A Type A RCBO for WMEPME08/SP.

Does WMEPME08/SP include surge protection?

Does it have eight spare circuits?

WCED specifies a 10-module enclosure. That is the enclosure capacity, not the number of spare outgoing ways after the equipment is fitted.

Does the Type A RCBO provide dedicated smooth-DC detection?

Do not assume a dedicated smooth-DC detection function. WCED specifies use with charge points that have integral DC leakage protection; check the exact charge-point requirements.

Is an earth rod always unnecessary?

Suitability depends on the charge point, earthing arrangement and circuit design. A qualified electrician must select and commission the complete installation using the supplied instructions and the applicable BS 7671 requirements.
