Description

The WMCUSP440C three-phase surge protection unit combines a 4-pole Type 2 SPD and 40A C curve MCB in an IP40 metal enclosure. It brings the protective devices and housing together for installers specifying a separate indoor surge-protection assembly alongside a three-phase distribution system.

A clearly specified SPD and MCB assembly

  • Fewer components to source separately: the enclosure, four-pole SPD and four-pole MCB are supplied as one unit.
  • Type 2 surge protection: the SPD has a 20kA nominal and 40kA maximum discharge-current rating for protection against transient overvoltages.
  • 40A C curve MCB: the supplied four-pole device provides overcurrent protection and has a 10kA breaking capacity.
  • Metal IP40 enclosure: an indoor enclosure format for a suitable dry mounting location.

This is the MCB version. It does not include an RCD or RCBO, so any residual-current protection required by the installation must be provided separately. The 8-way enclosure description refers to its format; it does not mean eight spare outgoing circuits.

Choose the enclosure and protective-device configuration your design requires
Product Supplied configuration Choose when
WMCUSP440C — this product Type 2 SPD + 40A C curve MCB; metal IP40 You need the specified 40A MCB assembly in an indoor metal enclosure.
WMCUSP463C Type 2 SPD + 63A C curve MCB; metal IP40 The design calls for the 63A MCB variant.
WRCUSP440C Type 2 SPD + 40A Type A RCBO; metal IP40 The design calls for combined residual-current and overcurrent protection in the assembly.
WPCUSP440C Type 2 SPD + 40A MCB; plastic IP65 The enclosure specification calls for plastic IP65 instead of metal IP40.

Installation notes

This assembly must be selected, installed and commissioned by a qualified electrician in accordance with the supplied instructions and the complete installation design.

  • Confirm supply and earthing arrangements, surge-protection coordination, upstream protection and the specified 40A C curve MCB rating.
  • Provide any residual-current protection required by the installation; this version contains an MCB and SPD.
  • Use a suitable dry indoor location for the IP40 enclosure. Check dimensions, cable access and the supplied wiring diagram before installation.
  • Follow the manufacturer’s conductor, connection-length and terminal-tightening requirements. Complete the required inspection and testing before energising.

FAQs

What is supplied with WMCUSP440C?

An IP40 metal enclosure containing a four-pole Type 2 SPD and a four-pole 40A C curve MCB. Whitecliffe specifies a 20kA/40kA SPD and a 10kA MCB for this product family.

Does the MCB provide earth-leakage protection?

No. The MCB provides overcurrent protection. If the installation requires residual-current protection, the design must provide it separately or specify an appropriate alternative assembly, such as the WRCUSP440C RCBO version.

Is this an eight-circuit distribution board?

It is a surge-protection assembly in an 8-way enclosure. The supplied protective devices use the enclosure space; the listing does not offer eight spare outgoing circuits. For multiple outgoing circuits, compare the required distribution-board configuration separately.

Should I choose metal IP40 or plastic IP65?

Choose according to the enclosure material and ingress protection required at the mounting location. This metal IP40 unit is for suitable dry indoor locations. The WPCUSP440C plastic IP65 version offers a different enclosure specification.

What is the difference between 40A and 63A versions?

The MCB current rating changes. Choose the rating specified by the installation design and the manufacturer’s coordination requirements; the 63A version is not an automatic upgrade for every installation.

Can I check dimensions or delivery before ordering?

Yes—contact Power & Data UK quoting WMCUSP440C, the available mounting space, quantity and required date. Confirm these details before committing to an installation schedule.
