Type A RCBOs – Regulation-Compliant Protection

Our range of Type A RCBOs combines overcurrent and residual current protection in a single device, compliant with 18th Edition Amendment 2. Built for EV charger circuits, heat pumps, solar, and other inverter-driven loads, Type A devices detect AC and pulsating DC leakage that standard AC devices can miss.

Available in 6A–50A ratings, with B or C curve options and both 6kA and 10kA breaking capacities, our Type A RCBOs cover everything from domestic installs to commercial boards. High immunity versions reduce nuisance trips, while 4-pole models ensure full disconnection in three-phase or sensitive applications.

  • Amendment 2 compliant – required for EVs, heat pumps & inverter circuits
  • High immunity options – designed to minimise false tripping
  • 6kA & 10kA breaking capacity – for domestic and commercial installs
  • B & C curve choices – match to circuit demand and inrush load
  • Compact 1-module width – saves valuable board space

All RCBOs are UK-stocked, available for next-day delivery, and backed by a 2-year manufacturer warranty. See our returns policy for details.

Choosing the Right Type A RCBO

When selecting a Type A RCBO, consider the circuit rating, curve type, and breaking capacity required for your install. Our range ensures compliance and flexibility for both new builds and retrofit work.

Key Considerations

  • 6 kA vs 10 kA – 6 kA for most domestic installs, 10 kA for commercial or industrial boards.
  • B vs C curve – B curve for standard domestic circuits, C curve for higher-inrush or inductive loads.
  • High immunity – essential on circuits with background leakage such as EVs or heat-pump supplies.
  • Pole count – 1-module single-pole + neutral or 4-pole options for three-phase installs.

Trust & Compliance

All our Type A RCBOs are BS EN 61009 certified, tested for reliability, and manufactured to meet 18th Edition standards. With next-day delivery and a 2-year warranty, installers can fit with confidence knowing every unit is compliant and supported.

FAQs

Why use Type A instead of Type AC?
The 18th Edition requires Type A devices on circuits feeding EVs, heat pumps, solar inverters and similar loads. Type AC is no longer suitable for these applications.

What’s the difference between 6 kA and 10 kA?
6 kA is suitable for domestic consumer units. 10 kA devices are designed for commercial or industrial boards where fault levels are higher.

Do I need high immunity?
High-immunity RCBOs are recommended for installs where background leakage may otherwise cause nuisance trips – common with EV chargers and heat pumps.
