Description

Pre-wired in the UK and tested before dispatch – allow up to 3 working days for shipping.

The WMTP28-WER40CSP is a complete 3 phase PME consumer unit for six single-phase EV chargers. It accepts a three-phase incoming supply and provides 6 x 40A two-pole RCBO outputs for individually protected single-phase charge-point circuits.

Supplied in a 28-module IP40 steel enclosure, the board also includes two PME fault detectors, a 100A main switch and Type 2 surge protection. It provides a compact pre-wired solution where several single-phase chargers need to be distributed from one three-phase installation.

Installer Tip: The WMTP28-WER40CSP is the six-output single-phase charger model. It should not be confused with the WMTP28-R40CSP or WMTP36-R40CSP, which provide four-pole outputs for two or three three-phase chargers.

Why Choose a Three-Phase Board with Single-Phase EV Outputs?

Commercial and multi-bay charging installations often have a three-phase incoming supply but use multiple single-phase EV chargers. The WMTP28-WER40CSP provides six individually protected single-phase outputs within one distribution and PME protection assembly.

EV charge points connected to a PME supply require an appropriate protective measure against the consequences of an open-PEN conductor. When a qualifying abnormal supply-voltage condition is detected, the unit’s protection arrangement operates to isolate the EV charging installation.

  • Six-charger configuration – designed for six single-phase EV charge points
  • 6 x 40A two-pole RCBO outputs – individual protection for every charger circuit
  • Three-phase incoming supply – supports a multi-output single-phase charging arrangement
  • Two PME fault detectors – monitors for open-PEN fault conditions
  • Type 2 surge protection – helps protect connected equipment from transient overvoltages
  • 100A main switch – provides a single incoming switching point
  • Pre-wired and tested in the UK – reduces on-site assembly work

Protection for Six Single-Phase EV Chargers

This page relates specifically to the WMTP28-WER40CSP. Its six 40A two-pole RCBO outputs are intended for six single-phase EV charger circuits supplied from a 400/415V three-phase installation.

Phase allocation, maximum demand, diversity, load management and upstream protection must be assessed for the complete installation. Each connected charger must also include the DC leakage protection required by its manufacturer and the applicable installation requirements.

Specification Note: The manufacturer’s currently available information confirms the output quantity, pole configuration and 40A rating but does not clearly substantiate the RCBO curve, residual-current type or rated residual operating current for this exact SKU. Confirm those device markings before final specification.

Installation notes

The WMTP28-WER40CSP must be specified, installed, tested and commissioned by a suitably qualified electrical installer. Confirm that the complete arrangement is appropriate for the supply, earthing system, connected chargers and applicable edition of BS 7671.

Configuration Check: This model accepts a three-phase supply and provides six 40A two-pole RCBO outputs for six single-phase EV chargers. It is not the two- or three-output model for three-phase chargers.

  • Location: Install indoors in a dry, suitably ventilated location. The steel enclosure is rated IP40 and is not intended for exposed outdoor installation.
  • Supply: Confirm a suitable 400/415V three-phase supply and coordinate the 100A main switch with the upstream protective arrangement.
  • EV outputs: Six dedicated 40A two-pole RCBO-protected outputs are provided for six single-phase charge points.
  • Phase allocation: Design and document the allocation of the six single-phase circuits across the incoming phases to suit the installation.
  • Charger compatibility: Confirm that every charger provides the required integral DC leakage protection and is compatible with the selected upstream protective devices.
  • Maximum demand: Assess diversity and any required load-management arrangement for the combined demand of all six chargers.
  • PME assessment: Verify the open-PEN protective measure against the complete installation design before deciding that a separate earth electrode is not required.
  • Surge protection: Check the Type 2 SPD status indicator during commissioning and routine inspection. Green indicates serviceable; red indicates replacement is required.
  • Terminations: Use the correct conductor sizes and observe the manufacturer’s terminal requirements. The recommended terminal torque is 2.5Nm.
  • Testing: Complete all required verification, RCBO testing, phase checks and functional tests before energising the charge points.
  • Reset behaviour: The unit automatically resets following recovery from an undervoltage condition. An overvoltage operation requires manual reset after the supply has returned to an acceptable range and the cause has been assessed.

Always follow the product instructions, EV charger manufacturer requirements, Building Regulations and the applicable edition of BS 7671.

FAQs

How many EV chargers can the WMTP28-WER40CSP supply?

This model provides six dedicated 40A two-pole RCBO outputs and is designed for six single-phase EV charge points.

Does the board have a three-phase input or single-phase input?

The WMTP28-WER40CSP is supplied from a 400/415V three-phase installation and provides six individually protected single-phase charger outputs.

Is this suitable for six three-phase EV chargers?

No. Its six outputs are for single-phase chargers. The number of outputs does not mean it can supply six three-phase charge points.

What is the difference between this and the WMTP28-R40CSP?

The WMTP28-WER40CSP provides six two-pole outputs for six single-phase chargers. The WMTP28-R40CSP provides two four-pole outputs for two three-phase chargers.

Which model supplies three three-phase chargers?

The WMTP36-R40CSP provides three 40A four-pole RCBO outputs for three three-phase EV charge points.

How many PME detectors are included?

The WMTP28-WER40CSP includes two PME fault detectors as part of its open-PEN protective arrangement.

Is an earth rod required?

The integrated open-PEN protective measure may allow an installation to be designed without a separate earth electrode where the relevant conditions are satisfied. This must be confirmed by the installer from the earthing arrangement, complete circuit design, manufacturer instructions and applicable edition of BS 7671.

Does this unit include surge protection?

Yes. A Type 2 surge protection device is included, with green and red status indication.

Can it be installed outdoors?

Not in an exposed location. The steel enclosure is rated IP40 and should be installed indoors in a dry, suitable environment.

Is load balancing included?

Load balancing is not stated as an included function for this SKU. Maximum demand, diversity, phase allocation and any required external load-management system must be addressed in the installation design.

Do the chargers need DC leakage protection?

Yes. The manufacturer identifies the WMTP arrangement for charge points incorporating the necessary DC leakage protection. Confirm every charger’s specification before installation.

What RCBO curve and residual-current type are fitted?

The available manufacturer information confirms six 40A two-pole RCBO outputs but does not clearly verify the curve, residual-current type or rated residual operating current for this exact SKU. Check the fitted device markings or obtain manufacturer confirmation before final specification.
