Description

The WMEV332C is a compact 3-way EV RCBO enclosure engineered for earth leakage and overload protection on single-phase EV charging circuits. Supplied with a 32A Type A High Immunity RCBO (Type C curve), it provides dependable 30mA AC and 6mA DC leakage protection, ensuring compliance with BS 7671:2018 Amendment 2.

This Type C version is designed for EV chargers with higher inrush currents — typically those using switched-mode power supplies or onboard transformers. Its compact metal body and EV-specific protection make it an excellent choice for residential and light commercial installs requiring 6mA DC detection and reliable disconnection performance.

Installer Tip: Type C curves are best suited for EV chargers with higher start-up or transformer inrush currents. Always verify the charger specification to avoid nuisance tripping.

  • Supplied with 32A Type A High Immunity RCBO (C Curve)
  • Detects AC, pulsating DC, and 6mA smooth DC leakage
  • 3-module IP40 metal enclosure – compact and robust
  • Dual overload and residual current protection
  • PME-ready and compatible with surge protection devices
  • Built to order – typically dispatched within 3 working days

Installation notes

Install only by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671. This Type C variant is ideal for EV chargers with higher inrush currents or load transients. Always confirm the RCBO type and rating with the charger manufacturer before energising.

  • Mount securely on a flat wall surface
  • Ensure correct polarity and earth continuity
  • Test RCBO operation with a calibrated tester before commissioning
  • Use indoors in dry, ventilated environments (IP40 rated)
  • Clearly label as EV circuit protection
FAQs

What’s the difference between Type B and Type C RCBO curves?

Type C RCBOs tolerate higher inrush currents before tripping, making them ideal for EV chargers with transformer or inverter-based designs.

Is this unit compatible with PME fault detection?

Yes. It can be used as part of a PME-compliant installation when paired with a PEN fault detection device.

Does it include surge protection?

No. Surge protection can be added separately at the supply board if required.

Is it pre-wired?

No. The RCBO is supplied fitted but un-wired, allowing the installer to configure the final connections.

Is this suitable for domestic EV chargers?

Yes. It’s ideal for 32 A single-phase chargers, particularly those with higher startup currents.
