Start with the required SPD type, supply and enclosure format. WSPD140 is a standalone module; WEC440SP includes a main switch and enclosure. These are installation products for specification by an electrician, rather than plug-in extension-lead surge protectors.

An SPD module and an enclosed surge-protection assembly solve different purchasing needs. Check what is included so you can order the device, housing and any required associated protection together.

Four details to check before ordering

  • SPD type and application: Type 2 and Type 1+2 describe different protection classifications. Confirm the required arrangement from the installation design.
  • Supply and poles: match the device to the system voltage, phase arrangement and earthing system. A one-pole module is not automatically a complete single-phase protection solution.
  • Ratings: compare the SPD’s voltage and discharge-current data, plus the manufacturer’s requirements for associated protection. A 40kA surge rating is different from a 40A breaker rating.
  • Enclosure and assembly: check dimensions, ingress protection, device compatibility and the exact included components. An SPD does not provide residual-current protection.

Questions before ordering

Can I use an AC SPD on a solar DC string?

Do not substitute an AC SPD for the specified PV DC device. For DC-side assemblies, compare the solar combiner box range and check the DC voltage and string arrangement.

Does fitting an SPD guarantee protection from all lightning damage?

No. Surge protection is part of a coordinated installation design. Select and coordinate the devices for the installation; a product alone does not establish complete lightning protection or compliance.

Need a module or a complete enclosed unit?
