Choosing a Modular Contactor

A modular contactor allows a control signal to switch a separate load circuit. Choose it from the load type, utilisation duty, pole count, current rating and coil/control voltage—not from the headline amp rating alone.

2-Pole Contactors

Useful for switching suitable single-phase loads where the circuit design requires two switched conductors. Check the contact configuration and control circuit.

4-Pole Contactors

Provide additional switched poles for suitable multi-pole or three-phase applications. Confirm whether the neutral is switched and how the load is distributed.

Control & Isolation

A contactor performs electrically controlled switching; it does not automatically replace the correctly rated protective device or local isolator.

Specification Checklist

  • Load type: identify resistive, inductive, motor, lighting or other duty
  • Current rating: use the appropriate utilisation category and manufacturer data
  • Pole configuration: confirm the number of conductors that must be switched
  • Coil voltage: match the control supply and switching equipment
  • Enclosure space: allow for DIN width, terminals, heat dissipation and wiring access
