The WEV240B-030 is a 2 Pole Type B RCD (40A, 30mA) designed for single-phase circuits where smooth DC residual currents or high-frequency leakage may be present. Unlike Type A RCDs, it detects AC, pulsed DC, and smooth DC faults up to 1000 Hz, making it essential for EV chargers, heat pumps, solar PV systems, UPS, and frequency converters.

Fully compliant with IEC/EN 62423 and the 18th Edition Wiring Regulations, this device guarantees safe disconnection where standard RCDs fall short. Its two-pole design is compact, reliable, and easy to integrate into domestic and commercial distribution boards.

Installer Tip: Type B RCDs are often mandated by equipment manufacturers for EV chargers and inverters — check the spec sheet before fitting a Type A.

When is a Type B RCD required?

Whenever smooth DC leakage currents may be generated – e.g. EV chargers, solar inverters, UPS, and frequency converters.

Is this suitable for EV charger installations?

Yes – it meets EV charger requirements. For PME supplies, pair with a PEN fault detection unit for BS 7671 compliance.

Can I use this in domestic consumer units?

Yes – provided there’s space for a 2-pole device and the circuit requires Type B protection.

What’s the difference between Type A and Type B RCDs?

Type A devices detect AC and pulsed DC. Type B also detects smooth DC and high-frequency leakage, making them essential for inverter-driven systems.

    What ratings are available?

    This series includes 40A (WEV240B-030) and 63A (WEV263B-030), both 2 Pole and 30mA sensitivity.

Installation must be completed by a qualified electrician in accordance with BS 7671. Type B RCDs are required wherever DC leakage may be present.

    • Mount on a standard 35mm DIN rail
    • Allow clearance for secure cable entry and bending radius
    • Tighten terminations to manufacturer torque settings
    • Test using a calibrated Type B RCD tester after installation
