Description

The WMC150C is a 50 A single-pole 6 kA Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) providing reliable overcurrent and short-circuit protection for feed circuits, plant equipment and sub-boards with moderate-to-high inrush currents. Its C-curve tripping characteristic (5–10 × In) handles motor and transformer surges without nuisance tripping while ensuring rapid fault clearing under BS 7671.

Tested to BS EN 60898 and compatible with Whitecliffe consumer units, the WMC150C delivers a 6 kA breaking capacity and 20 000-cycle mechanical life. Ideal for domestic or light-industrial feed and distribution circuits requiring robust inrush-resilient protection.

Installer Tip: Select C-curve breakers for circuits feeding motors or plant equipment. Confirm Zs, cable sizing and protective coordination with upstream devices to meet BS 7671 disconnection times.

  • 50 A rated current with C-curve (5–10 × In) tripping profile
  • 6 kA breaking capacity at 230/400 V AC
  • Single-pole design – 18 mm module width
  • DIN-rail mounted for consumer units and distribution boards
  • Complies with BS EN 60898 and BS 7671 (18th Edition A2)
  • Service life – 20 000 mechanical / 8 000 electrical operations
Part Code Rating Curve Typical Use
WMC140C 40 A C Sub-mains and plant feeds
WMC150C 50 A C Feed and equipment circuits with high inrush
WMC163C 63 A C Distribution and plant circuits with heavy load demand

The WMC150C provides 6 kA protection for feed and plant circuits in domestic and light-industrial environments. For resistive loads use a B Curve MCB, or choose Type A RCBOs to add earth-fault protection.

Installation notes

Install the WMC150C in a suitable consumer unit or distribution board by a qualified electrician. Match the MCB rating and curve to the circuit design and expected load.

  • Mount securely on 35 mm DIN rail and ensure busbar alignment
  • Use C-curve for motors, compressors and feed circuits with inrush
  • Check Zs and voltage drop against BS 7671 limits
  • Tighten terminals to manufacturer torque values and log test results
FAQs

Where is a 50 A C Curve MCB used?

Typically on feed circuits or plant equipment with motors or transformers that draw higher startup currents.

Is the WMC150C compatible with Whitecliffe boards?

Yes – it fits all Whitecliffe consumer units and standard DIN-rail enclosures.

Can this breaker feed a sub-board or industrial machine?

Yes, provided the fault level does not exceed 6 kA and the cables are rated for the load. For higher fault environments, see our 10 kA MCBs.

What does C Curve mean on an MCB?

It trips between 5–10 × the rated current (In), making it ideal for circuits with motors or transformers that produce brief inrush currents.

Do you supply D Curve versions?

Yes – Type D (10–20 × In) devices are available on request for industrial loads with very high inrush currents.
