Description
The WEV463B-030 is a 63A, 30mA, four-pole Type B RCD for three-phase circuits where Type B residual current protection is specified. It detects AC, pulsating DC and smooth DC residual currents, with manufacturer-stated AC residual current response up to 1,000Hz.
Its four-module format and 72 × 87 × 79.5mm dimensions make the space requirement clear before you order. The manufacturer lists applications including EV charging, solar PV, UPS equipment and frequency converters; selection must match the connected equipment’s instructions and the circuit design.
Check the details that determine the right RCD
- 63A rated current: the current rating of the RCD, distinct from its residual current sensitivity.
- 30mA residual current rating: the specified leakage sensitivity for this model.
- Four poles, four modules: for the specified three-phase arrangement; the manufacturer gives a 400/415V working voltage for the four-pole range.
- Type B residual current detection: covers AC, pulsating DC and smooth DC; this is unrelated to an MCB’s B trip curve.
- Documented product standards: IEC/EN 61008-1 and IEC/EN 62423, with the manufacturer datasheet available below.
This is an RCD/RCCB, so separate overcurrent protection is required. It does not provide the overload and short-circuit protection of an MCB or RCBO. A Type B RCD also does not provide open-PEN fault detection.

Compare Type B RCD variants
| Product | Configuration | Choose when |
|---|---|---|
| WEV463B-030 — this product | 4 pole · 63A · 30mA · 4 modules | The specified three-phase circuit needs a 63A, four-pole Type B RCD. |
| WEV263B-030 | 2 pole · 63A · 30mA · 3 modules | The installation requires a two-pole Type B device rather than a four-pole model. |
| WEV4100B-030 | 4 pole · 100A · 30mA | The design specifies a higher current rating. Check this model’s availability and full data separately. |
Select pole count, rated current and sensitivity from the installation specification rather than choosing a higher rating as an automatic upgrade. For EV equipment, check the charger’s built-in protection and manufacturer instructions before deciding on the external RCD arrangement.

Installation notes
A qualified electrician must select, install and test this RCD in accordance with the WEV datasheet (PDF), the supplied instructions and the requirements of the connected equipment.
- Verify WEV463B-030, 63A, 30mA and four poles against the project specification and the device supplied.
- Provide and coordinate suitable overcurrent protection; the RCD is not an overload or short-circuit protective device.
- Check the enclosure arrangement, terminals and available four-module space; follow the manufacturer’s wiring and torque instructions.
- Assess residual current compatibility, upstream protection and any separate open-PEN requirement for the installation.
- Complete the required inspection and tests using equipment appropriate for Type B RCDs, and follow the manufacturer’s functional-test guidance.
FAQs
What is the difference between 63A and 30mA?
63A is the RCD’s rated current. 30mA is its rated residual current sensitivity. They describe different characteristics and should both match the circuit specification.
Is Type B the same as a B-curve circuit breaker?
No. Type B describes the residual current waveforms detected by this RCD. A B trip curve describes an MCB or RCBO’s overcurrent tripping characteristic.
Does this RCD protect against overloads and short circuits?
No. It is an RCD/RCCB and needs suitable separate overcurrent protection selected and coordinated for the installation.
Does every EV charger need this Type B RCD?
No. The required external protection depends on the charger’s built-in protection, its manufacturer’s instructions and the installation design. Do not select an external RCD type from the EV application alone.
Does it include open-PEN protection?
No. Type B residual current detection and open-PEN fault protection are different functions. Any open-PEN protection requirement must be addressed separately in the installation design.
Why does the photograph say 100A?
The current image shows the WEV4100B-030 model for reference. The product on this page is WEV463B-030, rated 63A and 30mA. Check the SKU and rating when ordering and on receipt.
Can I replace a two-pole RCD with this four-pole model?
Select the pole count, rated voltage and connection arrangement specified for the installation. The four-pole model is not a direct substitute chosen only because its current rating is the same.
