Description

The WER40B-030 combines 40A B-curve overcurrent protection and 30mA Type A residual-current protection in one high-immunity RCBO, with switched live and neutral and separate handles to help identify the type of trip.

Combined protection with useful fault indication

For circuits specified with this rating and curve, the WER40B-030 brings overload, short-circuit and residual-current protection into a two-module device. Its Type A characteristic detects AC and pulsating DC residual currents.

  • Separate MCB and RCD handles: Whitecliffe's twin-handle arrangement helps electricians distinguish an overcurrent trip from a residual-current trip when investigating a fault.
  • Switched live and neutral: both conductors are disconnected when the device operates.
  • 10kA breaking capacity: a documented rating to check against the circuit's prospective fault current.
  • Bidirectional operation: supports circuit designs with power flow in either direction, subject to the equipment requirements and supplied connection instructions.

View the Whitecliffe WER technical datasheet (PDF) for the twin-handle explanation, electrical ratings and installation data.

Compare 40A RCBO options

Start with the specified current rating, curve, residual-current type and board compatibility. A change of curve or product range needs to match the circuit design.

Product Configuration When to consider it
WER40B-030 — this product 40A B curve; Type A, 30mA; two modules; 10kA Your specification calls for the B-curve WER device with switched live and neutral and separate MCB/RCD handles.
WER40C-030 40A C curve; Type A, 30mA; two modules; 10kA Your load characteristics and circuit design call for C curve. The current rating remains 40A.
WRB140B-030 mini RCBO 40A B curve; Type A, 30mA; single-module WRB range You are selecting a single-module format. Check the WRB ratings, dimensions and assembly compatibility before choosing it.

B curve and Type B mean different things This product is a B-curve Type A RCBO. Where equipment requires Type B residual-current protection, choose from the appropriate Type B range instead. For EV, solar or heat-pump projects, match the complete protection arrangement to the equipment instructions.

Installation notes

A qualified electrician should select and install this RCBO using the instructions supplied with the exact model and the applicable BS 7671 requirements.

  • Check current rating, trip curve, fault level and board compatibility.
  • Follow terminal markings and the manufacturer's connection requirements; bidirectional operation is not permission to disregard them.
  • Confirm any additional protection required for EV charging, solar, battery or other inverter-fed equipment.
FAQs

Why does the WER RCBO have two handles?

Whitecliffe identifies separate MCB and RCD handles. Their trip positions help an electrician distinguish an overload or short-circuit event from a residual-current event. See the manufacturer's datasheet for the indication details and follow its instructions when investigating faults.

What is the difference between WER40B-030 and WER40C-030?

Both are 40A, 30mA Type A WER RCBOs. The difference is the overcurrent trip curve. Compare the C-curve WER40C-030 where the equipment and circuit design require that characteristic.

Is B curve the same as Type B residual-current protection?

No. B curve describes the overcurrent tripping characteristic. This device has Type A residual-current protection for AC and pulsating DC waveforms; it is not a Type B residual-current device.

Does it disconnect live and neutral?

Yes. Whitecliffe's WER datasheet specifies switched live and neutral and a two-pole device.

How much board space does it need?

WER is a two-module range. Confirm the board, busbar and physical clearances for the exact assembly. A single-module RCBO from another range is a separate product choice, not an automatic replacement.

Can I use it for EV charging or solar?

Whitecliffe identifies the WER range as bidirectional. Suitability still depends on the equipment instructions, circuit design and any additional DC residual-current or earthing protection required. Follow the supplied connection instructions.
