Description
The WHR116B-030 is a 16A B curve Type B HP heat pump RCBO combining overcurrent and residual-current protection in a single 18mm module. It is intended for inverter-driven heat pump circuits where the equipment manufacturer or circuit design calls for Type B residual-current protection.
Its Type B HP characteristic is designed to detect smooth DC residual currents and operate in the high-frequency conditions associated with modern heat pump systems. The B overcurrent curve is the device's thermal-magnetic trip characteristic and is separate from its Type B residual-current classification. Confirm that both the 16A rating and B curve suit the connected equipment, cable and circuit design.
Installer note: “Type B HP” describes the residual-current detection characteristic; “B curve” describes the overcurrent trip characteristic. These are different specifications.
- 16A B curve RCBO for correctly specified heat pump circuits
- Type B HP residual-current protection for smooth DC and high-frequency residual currents
- 30mA sensitivity for additional protection
- 10kA breaking capacity
- 1P+N with switched live and neutral
- Single-module, 18mm format for DIN rail assemblies
- Bidirectional design
- Manufactured to IEC/BS EN 62423 and IEC/BS EN 61009-1
The WHR range is engineered for operation at frequencies above 20kHz, with the manufacturer stating a minimum tripping threshold of 150mA for frequencies above 1kHz. Selection must follow the heat pump manufacturer's instructions and the requirements of the installation design.

FAQs
What does Type B HP mean on the WHR116B-030?
Type B HP describes the RCBO's residual-current detection characteristic. The manufacturer states that the WHR range detects smooth DC residual currents and is designed for the high-frequency conditions associated with inverter-driven heat pumps.
Is Type B HP the same as B curve?
No. Type B HP refers to residual-current behaviour. The B curve describes the overcurrent trip characteristic. Both must be selected to suit the equipment and circuit design.
Can the WHR116B-030 be used with any heat pump?
Not automatically. Check the heat pump manufacturer's protective-device requirements and the circuit design before selecting the RCBO. This product should only be used where its 16A rating, B curve, 30mA sensitivity and Type B HP characteristic are appropriate.
What residual currents is this RCBO designed to detect?
As a Type B HP device, it is designed to detect AC, pulsating DC and smooth DC residual currents. The WHR datasheet also states operation at frequencies above 20kHz for heat pump applications.
Will it fit a standard consumer unit?
The device uses a single-module 18mm format and mounts on a standard 35mm DIN rail. Confirm physical, busbar and assembly compatibility before installation.
Which standards are stated for the WHR range?
The manufacturer lists IEC 62423 / BS EN 62423 and IEC 61009-1 / BS EN 61009-1. Final installation must also follow the applicable requirements of BS 7671.
