What is this unit used for?

It’s used to isolate the supply between an energy meter and the consumer unit. This gives electricians a safe disconnect point when upgrading or maintaining distribution boards.

Is this suitable for 3-phase installs?

Yes – it’s a 4-pole isolator and can be used for three-phase + neutral setups. For larger boards, see our three-phase electrical range.

    Is this enclosure lockable?

Yes – the switch can be padlocked, and the sealed lid screws prevent tampering. For machinery and outdoor installs, consider rotary isolators with higher IP ratings.

    Can I fit this outdoors?

No – it’s IP20 rated and should only be installed in dry, indoor environments like meter cupboards or garages. For outdoor supplies, browse our IP65-rated enclosures.

Can it be used with surge protection?

Yes – it can be paired with surge protection devices. If you need a pre-wired SPD solution, see our EV surge protection boards or 3-phase SPD units.

What’s the difference between a meter isolator and a main switch?

A meter isolator is installed between the meter and consumer unit for safe disconnection. A main switch or rotary isolator is used within the consumer unit or machinery circuit as the primary means of isolation.
