The IP65 EV Connection Unit with Surge Protection (WPEVCU-SP series) is a compact, weatherproof enclosure that combines circuit isolation, overload protection, and surge protection in one ready-to-install unit. Designed for EV charger connections and PME systems, it meets the requirements of the 18th Edition Amendment 2.
Each unit is housed in a durable IP65 plastic case with a 100A main switch isolator, pre-fitted MCB, and integrated SPD. It provides reliable outdoor protection for EV charge points, solar PV, and external distribution circuits.
Available variants:
- WPEVCU32BSP – 32A MCB + SPD
- WPEVCU40BSP – 40A MCB + SPD
- WPEVCU63CSP – 63A MCB (C curve) + SPD
Which to choose? Use 32A for standard domestic EV chargers, 40A for higher-capacity units, and 63A (C curve) for heavier commercial or solar PV applications with higher inrush currents.
- Weatherproof: IP65 enclosure, dust-tight and water-resistant
- Compliant: Meets BS7671:2018 (Amendment 2) for EV/PME systems
- Protected: Integrated SPD guards against lightning and surge events
- Flexible: Choice of 32A, 40A, or 63A MCB ratings
- Compact: Dimensions 212 × 205 × 95mm
What does this unit include?
A 100A main switch isolator, a pre-fitted MCB (32A, 40A, or 63A), and an integrated surge protection device (SPD) inside an IP65 plastic enclosure.
Why is surge protection needed in EV installs?
Amendment 2 of the 18th Edition requires surge protection on most new circuits, including EV chargers, to guard against overvoltage and transient surges.
Can I use this with solar PV?
Yes – this unit is also suitable for solar PV inverters and hybrid systems where surge protection and weatherproof isolation are required.
What’s the difference between the 32A, 40A, and 63A options?
The rating determines the circuit load. Choose 32A for typical domestic chargers, 40A for higher-power models, and 63A (C curve) for larger commercial or PV applications.
- Enclosure: IP65-rated plastic, 8-way
- Main Switch: 100A isolator
- MCB Options: 32A (B), 40A (B), 63A (C)
- Surge Protection: Type 2 SPD pre-fitted
- Dimensions: 212(H) × 205(W) × 95(D) mm
- Mounting: Surface wall-mount
- Standards: BS EN 61439, BS7671:2018 (Amendment 2)
Supplied pre-assembled with main switch, MCB, and SPD. Final wiring and testing must be carried out by a qualified electrician.
- Maintain IP65 integrity by correctly sealing all cable entries
- Confirm correct variant (32A, 40A, 63A) based on circuit design and charger spec
- Verify SPD earth path is as short as possible
- Test MCB trip and SPD function during commissioning
